Personal statement
I am a qualified and experienced English and Media Studies teacher with over 24 years of diverse teaching and advisory experience across the UK and internationally. My career has spanned secondary education, further education colleges, prison education, international schools, and community-based advisory services. Throughout this journey, I have developed a passion for inclusive, student-centred learning and for helping individuals overcome barriers to achieve their full potential.
My teaching experience includes delivering English Language, Literature, and Media Studies from Entry Level to A Level across a variety of exam boards including AQA, Edexcel, WJEC, and IGCSE. I have also taught vocational and life skills courses, including Literacy and Numeracy within HMP Leicester, supporting learners in their rehabilitation and preparation for reintegration into society. I am adept at planning and delivering engaging lessons tailored to a wide range of abilities, and I incorporate creative strategies to build confidence, critical thinking, and communication skills among learners.
In addition to my teaching career, I have gained valuable experience in student admissions through my work with Study Group in Brighton, ensuring compliance with UKVI and institutional guidelines. I also worked as a volunteer advisor for Citizens Advice, where I provided information, advice, and advocacy, further honing my interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
I am highly organised, proactive, and committed to continuous professional development. I hold a CELTA qualification, a PGCE with QTS, and have undertaken CPD training in British Common Law and Makaton Sign Language. Most recently, I completed a Level 2 course in Information, Advice and Guidance, which complements my advisory experience and supports my holistic approach to student and client wellbeing.
Culturally aware and multilingual, I speak fluent English and Gujarati, conversational Spanish, and I am currently learning French. My work and volunteer placements have taken me across the UK, Spain, Costa Rica, and the USA, enriching my understanding of global perspectives in education and personal development.
I bring to any role a strong work ethic, flexibility, and a genuine enthusiasm for helping others succeed—whether in academic, pastoral, or advisory settings. I am also confident working independently or collaboratively, whether face-to-face or online, and am fully DBS-cleared on the update service.
I am now seeking a role where I can continue to make a positive impact—whether in teaching, student services, advisory work, or a support role within education or community settings. I am open to new challenges and relocation and am eager to bring my diverse skills, experience, and passion for learning to a forward-thinking organisation.
