Personal statement
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am a British-Canadian professor of EAP/ESP with Qualified Teacher Status from England & Wales and a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics & ELT from King’s College London. I am qualified in Canada & the UK to teach ESL, EAP & ESP (content-specific language) courses. I am an experienced online learning curriculum designer and teacher trainer with over 24 webinar and conference presentations focusing on educational technology and online pedagogy. One of my most recent achievements is the design of bespoke content for IELTS online courses at Southwark College, UK where the delivery of online IELTS courses have commences this semester under my supervision. I would like to take my career to the next step and utilize my passion for education, detail-oriented approach at work, my 22 years of experience from the FE & HE sector. Since I moved back to the United Kingdom, I would like to secure employment in the HE sector again from where I obtained most of my experience.
I have been teaching students from China for the past 13 years at York University, Toronto, Canada as well as for Waterloo University Waterloo, Canada. I would like to continue teaching EAP working online (remotely) and teach academic skills. My experience is extensive as it is clear from my CV. Most higher education institutions take advantage of my geographical location as I have a clear advantage when it comes to time zone. Please let me know whether I could be considered for the post teaching remotely from the UK fully online.
In Canada I had worked as an EAP/ESP professor teaching content specific language for students studying Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Applied Calculus and Computer Science. Simultaneously, I worked for the Department of Language and Linguistics at York University as a TESOL teacher trainer and practicum supervisor for a period of 10 years. I supervised students completing their initial teacher education. I delivered lecture seminars and webinars in the theme of methodology, online pedagogy, differentiation techniques , effective teaching and learning methods in the classroom and supervised teaching practicum at the Department of Languages and Linguistics at York University.
During the pandemic, at York University, I supported the department with 35 EdTech webinar demos, that upskilled professors in educational technology and served as the core material for the online learning HUB. I have actively contributed to the transition of courses to the Moodle platform at York by designing asynchronous modules for various academic language programs. This year (only) I created 2 EdTech Exchange Videos (For the TESOL Canada Board), hosted 2 TESL Dialogue sessions in the topic of Online pedagogy and The validity of online assessments. I also presented at 5 other professional development conference presentations on the following topics:

I have designed ESP (Content-specific) curriculum, teaching materials as well as formative and summative assessments to many Bridging Courses in Economics, Applied Calculus, Computer Science.
As a post graduate professor and curriculum developer, I have transitioned courses from face-to-face to online delivery at the Centre for Online & Part-Time Learning at Centennial College (CPTOL), Canada. This entailed transitioning business office skills course, Word, Excel, PowerPoint to online delivery utilizing various in-house and external platforms. Since 2018 I have worked with blended learning program at Centennial College at the Online & Part Time Learning department designing & delivering blended learning courses for the Continuing Education provision. In the United Kingdom, I worked extensively in the field of ESOL teaching and curriculum design at Lewisham College (now LeSoCo) and South Thames College as a Functional Skills English & Math Lecturer before leaving to Canada in 2012. During the 9 years working in the field of ESOL/ Academic English and Functional Skills I worked with various awarding bodies including City & Guilds, Edexcel, Trinity College London, OCNW. My teaching abilities were filmed for teacher training purposes and now part of the Lewisham College video archive used for the CELTA teacher training program. I worked as an internal moderator for most of these qualifications. I am well-familiar with the structure and delivery of the Functional Skills programs. My 9 years of experience in this field in the UK equipped me with expertise in delivering ESOL, ESOL for Work, Literacy & Numeracy (Skills for Life) as well as Functional Skills English & Math curriculum. I actively participated in professional development activities, managed a small team of ESOL teachers (at CALAT), designed ESOL content specific curriculum for the ESOL for Work Programs as a coordinator and delivered Outstanding (Grade 1.) teaching for Ofsted for both South Thames and Lewisham College. I completed my CELTA before my departure at Lewisham with Grade 1 for each criterion for this Level 5 Cambridge English qualification. I was always supportive with my colleagues.
In terms of qualifications, I hold an M.A. in Applied Linguistics & ELT from King’s College London. I am certified in Online/Blended & Mobile Learning design from TESOL International Association (IACET accredited qualification) and have 2 years of relevant EAP e-learning curriculum design experience I have worked in Learning & Teaching environments supporting colleagues & delivered teacher development workshops at York University in the form of 35 webinar series. I hold QTS in England & Wales and am a member of Institute for Learning (UK). I also hold a NVQ Level 3. in information, advice and guidance and am experienced education management (3 years from the UK).
