Are you ready to teach with purpose and make a lasting impact? Novus is seeking a passionate and forward-thinking Business Teacher to join our dedicated education team at HMP Low Newton. This is more than a teaching role-it’s a chance to transform lives through learning.
We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Low Newton, working as a Business Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, part-time basis, working 18.5 hours per week.
As part of our Foundations for Change initiative, you’ll deliver the SFEDI Level 2 Award in Passport to Enterprise and Employment -a nationally recognised vocational qualification designed to equip learners with enterprise, employability, and entrepreneurial skills that open doors to brighter futures.

Site Information
HMP Low Newton is the North East’s only all-female prison Located in Durham, it caters to both young offenders and adult women. The team’s aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Experience delivering the SFEDI Level 2 Award in Passport to Enterprise and Employment preferred
- Teaching qualification and where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification – with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
- Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
- Track record of creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
- Track record of achievement of quality targets
- Track record of producing accurate and timely reports
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to motivate and enthuse learners
- Organisational skills to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and targets
