This role is offered on a Variable Hours contract for services, giving you the flexibility to choose whether to accept work offered to you. We’ll provide an approximate number of hours you may be asked to work, however there is no obligation for work to be offered, and there’s no obligation for you to accept the work offered.
The Opportunity
Barnsley College is seeking a passionate and skilled Catering & Hospitality Teacher to join our dynamic Catering, Hospitality, Hair & Beauty Department. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver high-quality teaching across a range of professional cookery and hospitality qualifications.
You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons, assessing student progress, and supporting learners in both practical and theoretical settings. You’ll work closely with the Course Leader and wider team to maintain a vibrant and industry-relevant curriculum.
About You
You are a motivated educator with a strong background in professional cookery and hospitality. You have experience working as a chef and ideally have teaching experience in an FE setting. You’re confident in delivering practical demonstrations and supporting learners to achieve their goals.
You hold a Level 3 qualification in Professional Cookery, Level 2 Food Hygiene, and GCSEs in Maths and English (or are willing to work towards them). A teaching qualification and assessor/verifier awards are desirable, and you should be willing to work towards a PGCE if not already held.
You are a team player with excellent communication skills, a flexible and professional approach, and a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners.
Required
- Level 3 qualification in Professional Cookery
- Level 2 Food Hygiene
- GCSEs in Maths and English (or willingness to work towards)
- Minimum 4 years’ industry experience as a professional chef
- Strong practical demonstration and assessment skills
- Commitment to continuous professional development
- Motivation to work with young people and vulnerable adults
