About the role
As a Butchery Apprentice, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals to learn the full scope of butchery operations—from inspecting and preparing meat to packaging and advising customers. You’ll play a key role in maintaining food safety standards, supporting learners, and helping fulfil orders for our canteen and external customers.
Key responsibilities:
- Prepare, trim, weigh, label, and price meat products
- Cut and bone carcasses, package meat, and store it safely
- Maintain hygiene and food safety standards
- Support learners in a safe and engaging environment
- Attend marketing events to promote courses and raise the College’s profile
- Help maintain equipment and facilities
- Meet targets for meat delivery, sales, and masterclass income
- Keep accurate records and complete prestart checks
- Clean down the department daily to required standards
The successful candidate will:
- Hold a Level 2 qualification and Level 2 Maths & English (or equivalent)
- Be quality-conscious and technically sound
- Be self-motivated and able to inspire others
- Demonstrate understanding of the butchery industry
- Be able to think creatively and work within budgetary limits
- Have IT skills in MS Office (desirable)
