Location: Central Bedfordshire College – Dunstable Kingsway Campus
Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £23,557 and £25,849 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
Hours/Weeks: 34.5 hours per week – 36 weeks per year
Contract Type: Permanent – Term Time
About the role:
We are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant to join our Additional Support department at The Bedford College Group.
As a Teaching Assistant, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
- Student-Centred Support – Provides tailored one-to-one or small group support to students with SEND across vocational and academic courses (Levels 1–3), helping them access learning and achieve their goals.
- Individualised Learning Implementation – Works under the direction of the ALS Team Leader and teaching staff to apply strategies from students’ support plans and EHCPs, promoting independence and progress.
- Resource & Progress Monitoring – Prepares and maintains learning resources, monitors progress against EHCP outcomes, and contributes to learner reports and regular review meetings.
- Team Collaboration & Mentoring – Actively supports new staff within the ALS team, attends team meetings, and participates in college events such as open days and transition activities.
- Safeguarding & Professional Development – Upholds safeguarding, equality, and health & safety policies, and engages in ongoing training and development to maintain high standards of support.
About you:
- Essential Qualifications & Knowledge – Educated to Level 2 in Maths and English, with a relevant Level 3 qualification or willingness to work towards, and a working understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
- Experience & Technical Skills – Proven experience supporting young people with SEND in educational or care settings, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and accurate record-keeping.
- Student-Centred Approach – Committed to delivering a high-quality, inclusive learning experience, promoting student independence, and maintaining a welcoming and supportive environment.
- Professionalism & Communication – Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills across various formats, works independently, and contributes positively to team dynamics and college reputation.
- Safeguarding & Flexibility – Maintains appropriate professional boundaries, upholds safeguarding responsibilities, and is adaptable with a willingness to work across all college sites.
