Location: Shuttleworth College – Old Warden
Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £31,930 and £36,878 per annum DOE and Qualifications, Teacher’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.Salary is based on that of a Qualified Lecturer.
Hours/Weeks: 37.5 hours per week
Contract Type: Fixed Term – Full Time – Fixed until 1st January 2027
About the role:
We are currently seeking a Lecturer in Animal Sciences to join our Animal Sciences department at The Bedford College Group.
As a Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
- Course Delivery & Assessment – Prepares, teaches, assesses, and verifies higher education Animal Science programmes, ensuring a high-quality learning experience that meets awarding body standards.
- Curriculum Development & Innovation – Actively contributes to curriculum design, develops engaging learning materials, and integrates vocational opportunities such as guest speakers and industry visits.
- Student Support & Progress Monitoring – Tracks student progress, provides feedback and reports, and ensures learners meet academic standards and deadlines through tailored support.
- Team Collaboration & Quality Assurance – Participates in course reviews, team meetings, and quality processes, while mentoring new staff and working with Advanced Practitioners to enhance teaching practice.
- Compliance & College Engagement – Upholds safeguarding, equality, and health & safety policies, attends promotional events, and engages in ongoing training and development in line with college values.
About you:
- Academic & Sector Qualifications – Holds a BSc or Foundation Degree, with GCSEs (Grade A–C) in English and Maths or willingness to achieve Level 2, and strong knowledge of current developments in the animal management sector.
- Teaching & Curriculum Expertise – Experienced in delivering lessons to diverse learner groups across FE and HE, with proven ability to contribute to curriculum development and provide high-quality learning experiences.
- Professional Skills & Conduct – Demonstrates excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage workloads, meet deadlines, and maintain professionalism in all college-related activities.
- Values-Driven & Inclusive Practice – Works in line with Bedford College Group’s values, promotes equality and diversity, and creates a welcoming and supportive environment for students from all backgrounds.
- Commitment & Flexibility – Holds a current driving licence, willing to work across college sites, and committed to continuous professional development, safeguarding responsibilities, and maintaining appropriate boundaries with learners.

Shuttleworth College is set within the stunning location of Old Warden Park, near Biggleswade. It’s a specialist land-based college, offering agricultural and environmental education, alongside animal sciences, equine studies and outdoor adventure all delivered within acres of parkland, farmland, lakes and woodland.
