Role: Practical Instructor – Construction or Building Services Engineering
Location: Tresham College – Corby and/or Wellingborough Campuses
Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £26,780 and £31,415 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

About the role:
We are currently seeking a Practical Instructor in Construction or Building Services Engineering to join our Construction and Building Services department at The Bedford College Group.
As a Practical Instructor, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
- Practical Instruction & Assessment – Delivers hands-on skills training and assessment across various courses, preparing learners for vocational competence through demonstrations, feedback, and resource-based learning.
- Workshop & Resource Management – Oversees practical teaching areas, ensuring equipment is maintained, stocked, and safe, while managing inventory and procurement using the college’s finance system.
- Curriculum Support & Development – Contributes to teaching schemes, develops practical learning materials, and supports curriculum delivery aligned with awarding body standards and learner needs.
- Health & Safety Leadership – Maintains safe working environments through risk assessments, compliance with regulations, and collaboration with the Health & Safety Manager.
- College Engagement & Compliance – Participates in marketing events, team meetings, and staff development, while upholding safeguarding, EDI, and health & safety responsibilities in line with college policies.
About you:
- Essential Qualifications & Industry Knowledge – Holds a Level 2 qualification in a construction trade, with recent hands-on experience in the sector and a willingness to work towards teaching qualifications.
- Health, Safety & Compliance Awareness – Demonstrates strong knowledge of safe working practices, relevant UK legislation, and consistently upholds high standards of housekeeping and health & safety.
- Learner Support & Instructional Skills – Capable of delivering practical demonstrations, supporting high-quality learning experiences, and creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for all students.
- Organisation & Communication – Skilled in managing workload independently, maintaining accurate records, and communicating effectively in person, in writing, and over the phone.
- Professionalism & Flexibility – Committed to safeguarding, continuous development, and promoting the college’s reputation, with a flexible approach to work and the ability to travel across sites.
