Join us as Careers Programmes Lead and help us develop outstanding careers programmes across the region.

Welcome to EMCCA

EMCCA is the UK’s first mayor-led combined county authority. The East Midlands is a great region. But it deserves to be better. Better connected, better funded and better prepared for a future of opportunity, growth, and hope. EMCCA will oversee devolved powers around transport, housing, skills and adult education, economic development, and net zero. We will conceive the strategies and create the connections that will empower local partners, people and businesses – maximising the impact of billions of pounds of funding. Together, our new EMCCA team can put the East Midlands on the map as a place to live, work and study.

Your role in elevating the East Midlands

As Careers Programmes Lead, you will act as the strategic lead on careers information, advice, and guidance provision across the region, help us meet local and national requirements and align national policies with EMCCA needs and values.

You will deliver the vision and strategy for our careers programmes, identifying and developing opportunities to enhance careers provision and support across the region. Your strategy will need to be supported by defined and measurable outcomes, enabling us to evidence sustained improvements in careers support for all young people. You also will lead and manage the Careers Hub team, motivating and driving performance, dealing with any issues that arise, as well as ensuring close alignment with the developing Youth and Careers portfolio.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Creation and management of the vision and long-term strategy for careers programmes, delivering clearly defined and measurable outcomes that evidence sustained change.
  • The management of multiple programmes, ensuring effective performance management and successful delivery of targets outlined in service plans and grant funding agreements.
  • Developing and maintaining strategic partnership relationships with schools across the region, coordinating employer-led outreach activities that enhance careers education.
  • Utilising local labour market intelligence and data insight to inform strategic planning and shape careers programme delivery.
  • Leading and driving engagement with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), building strong, strategic relationships.
  • Developing and implementing a regional work experience policy, co-designed with employers and education providers.
  • Leading the development of an online Opportunities Portal to engage citizens and employers across the EMCCA region.

Your profile

  • Relevant degree or equivalent level of relevant experience and evidence of career progression.
  • Experience and success in leading and managing a multi-disciplinary field-based team that works with a wide range of stakeholders, driving performance and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Proven experience in managing multiple programmes and managing the successful delivery of projects with impact and evaluation at their core to drive sustainable change across careers education sector, voluntary and business communities.
  • A demonstrable understanding of the post-16 landscape including National Apprenticeship Service, Uni-Connect, National Careers Service and T Levels, school culture and the challenges faced by schools in delivering careers, and enterprise education.
  • A proven track record of engaging with and influencing senior, cross sector stakeholders to drive collaboration and achieve balance in the regional system.
  • Up to date knowledge of the careers education sector and the wider economic, political and social drivers of business engaging with and supporting schools, colleges and young people.
