Student Voice Officer
Department: Student Services
Salary: £23,992 per annum (£25,157 full year equivalent)
Contract Type: Permanent – Term Time 37 hours per week

Reference: REC2235 | Closing Date: Wednesday, 27th August 2025

Term Time Contracts

This contract offers full-time hours across 42 weeks of the year, primarily during term time. You will be required to work during the academic terms, with some additional duties outside of term time as needed. This structure provides a balance between a full-time role and flexibility during non-term periods.

The Opportunity

You will play a key part in developing, growing, and sustaining our Students’ Union, working in partnership with students, staff, and external organisations. You will inspire our students to get involved in shaping the Union’s direction, ensuring there is a diverse and creative programme of activities on offer. Your work will give our students the chance to broaden their horizons, build valuable soft skills, and prepare them for the next steps in their educational and career journey.

You will recruit, support, and guide members of the Students’ Union Executive Committee and student governors, helping them represent their peers effectively. You will also create engaging promotional materials, keeping all sites, Moodle pages, and social media channels fresh and up to date. By responding to our student and staff enquiries, producing reports, and sharing information clearly, you will help maintain strong and open communication across the college.

Your role will see you promoting the Student Voice and Student Services at events, tutorials, and one-to-one sessions, as well as working with Tutorial Team Leaders to make sure every student knows how they can get involved. You will contribute to planning, delivering, and reviewing a varied programme of activities, events, campaigns, and skills sessions that bring students together and encourage participation. Working closely with the Student Experience Team, you will help create a welcoming, supportive, and engaging environment where our students can make the most of their time at college.

This is a great opportunity to make a real difference to our students’ experience while developing your own skills in engagement, communication, and event coordination. You’ll be working in a role where your ideas and creativity can directly influence how our students connect with the college and each other.

About You

You’ll need to be approachable, enthusiastic, and confident in connecting with a wide range of people. You should be a clear communicator, able to engage others whether that’s in person, in writing, or through social media, and you’ll know how to adapt your style to suit different audiences. You’ll have experience of representing the views of others and be comfortable liaising effectively with both learners and staff to build strong, positive relationships.

You’ll bring creativity and fresh ideas to design activities and campaigns that capture our students’ interest, alongside proven experience of organising events. With at least two years’ experience in an administrative or customer service role, you’ll have excellent record-keeping skills, strong IT abilities, and the confidence to produce high-quality written information. You’ll also be able to plan and prioritise your workload effectively, meet deadlines, and use your initiative to make sound decisions.

You’ll enjoy motivating and supporting others – especially students stepping into leadership roles for the first time – and you’ll feel confident representing the Students’ Union at meetings and events. Your excellent customer care, communication, negotiating, and mediating skills will help you handle challenges effectively while creating a welcoming and inclusive environment. Most importantly, you’ll be passionate about helping our students make the most of their time at college and ensuring their voices are heard loud and clear.
