Role: Technician – Building Services

Location: Gas & Plumbing Technology Centre – Kempston

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £23,557 and £25,849 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Building Services Technician to join our Construction and Building Services department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Technician, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Workshop & Equipment Support – Prepare and maintain tools, equipment, and learning materials for student use; ensure cleanliness and organisation of workshops and classrooms, including outdoor areas.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance – Adhere to college health and safety policies, conduct risk assessments, and ensure safe working environments for staff and students.
  • Inventory & Maintenance – Manage stock levels, initiate supply orders, maintain and repair equipment, and ensure tools are issued and returned appropriately.
  • Team & Student Support – Assist teaching staff with practical setup, support students during sessions, and contribute to a positive and professional learning environment.
  • Professional Standards & Development – Promote equality, safeguarding, and college values; engage in training and development, and be flexible to work across campuses as required.

About you:

  • Qualifications & Experience – Holds or is working toward Level 4 qualifications in Maths and English, with relevant teaching or vocational experience and a clear understanding of the role’s requirements.
  • Skills & Attributes – Demonstrates strong communication, organisation, and a methodical approach; able to follow instructions, suggest improvements, and manage tasks independently or as part of a team.
  • Professionalism & Values – Committed to equal opportunities and the college’s ethos, with an understanding of how the role supports departmental and student success.
  • Performance & Motivation – Results-oriented and motivated to contribute effectively; able to evaluate and improve own working methods and support professional staff and student outcomes.
