Plumbing & Heating Trainer

Job Details
Role: Plumbing & Heating Trainer
Department: Apprenticeships
Salary: £32,532 to £36,614 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent, Full time
Hours: 37 hours per week
Reference: REC2217 | Closing Date: Monday, 18th August 2025
The Opportunity
In this role, you’ll guide our apprentices through their training, helping them to build both technical skills and a strong understanding of the plumbing and domestic heating industry. Working within the friendly Apprenticeships team, you’ll deliver teaching and assessment to learners on Level 2 and Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician standards, both in college and in the workplace. You’ll be instrumental in helping our apprentices prepare for End Point Assessment and develop the competence needed to succeed in this hands-on, safety-critical sector.
Your focus will be on delivering training that covers a wide range of plumbing and heating competencies, including hot and cold-water systems, sanitation, central heating, and environmental technologies such as heat pumps and solar thermal systems. You’ll ensure your apprentices understand and apply key principles around system design, installation, maintenance, fault diagnosis and compliance with current building regulations and health and safety legislation.
You’ll deliver a mix of theoretical and practical sessions using industry-standard tools, materials and facilities. Your training will reflect current regulations and emerging technologies to ensure that apprentices are prepared for the demands of modern plumbing and heating work. You’ll carry out workplace assessments and support our learners to apply what they’ve learned in real-world settings, always aligning with employer needs and industry expectations.
This is a rewarding opportunity that enables you to use your professional plumbing and heating experience to develop the next generation of tradespeople, equipping them with the knowledge, behaviours and skills they need to succeed in a competitive and evolving industry.
About You
We are seeking someone with at least two years of hands-on experience in the plumbing and domestic heating industry, ideally supported by relevant qualifications such as an NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing and Heating or equivalent. You’ll bring up-to-date knowledge of the trade, including current legislation, building regulations, and developments in renewable technologies such as heat pumps and solar thermal systems.
You’ll need to be confident delivering both practical and theoretical training, with a clear understanding of how to engage apprentices and support different learning styles. A recognised teaching or assessing qualification—such as a Level 3 Award in Education and Training—would be an advantage, although support can be provided to work towards this if you don’t already have it.
As this role involves delivering training both in college and in the workplace, you’ll need strong communication and organisational skills, as well as the ability to build effective relationships with learners and employers. You’ll be proactive, approachable and committed to helping others progress—capable of managing a caseload of apprentices, monitoring their development and providing meaningful feedback.
This could be a great opportunity for you if you take pride in your work, enjoy developing others and want to play a meaningful role in shaping skilled professionals for the plumbing and heating industry.
