If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you teaching English Functional Skills in a mixed ability class from entry level up to level 2.

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP High Down, working as Functional Skills English Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP High Down is located in Sutton in Surrey. It is a Category B male prison known for its extensive history and modern facilities. It offers a range of facilities aimed at rehabilitation and education. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Hold Teaching qualification and where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification – with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
  • Hold Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
