We have a great opportunity available to join Novus Cambria, our prison education provider at HMP Berwyn, working as a Vocational Trainer in Joinery. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Prison Berwyn is a Category C prison in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. It accommodates a male population. It is the largest prison in the UK, opened in 2017, and is operated by His Majesty’s Prison Service. The prisons aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe at all times. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Hold a minimum L3 qualification in the relevant subject specific area (Joinery)
  • Hold a PGCE/Cert Ed qualification
  • Hold a least a level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Hold an appropriate assessor/TAQA qualification
  • Hold an A.E.T. Teaching Award (Desirable)
  • Hold, or commit to gain, an Internal Verifier award within 1 year (dependent upon course accreditation requirements)
  • Have experience in the relevant vocational area, or within a similar role (2+ years teaching experience is desirable)
  • Have experience of working within a prison, further education or training setting (Desirable)
  • Be computer literate (Desirable)
