Hours/Weeks: Tuesdays and Thursdays: 09.15 – 12.30 and 18.00 – 21.00
Contract Type: Sessional – Hourly Paid
About the role:
We are currently seeking an Associate Lecturer in ESOL to join our ESOL & Basic Skills department at The Bedford College Group.
As a Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
- Teaching & Assessment – Plan, deliver, and assess ESOL provision for 16–18 and adult learners across day and evening classes, using a variety of teaching strategies and ILT resources to meet diverse learner needs.
- Learner Support & Progress – Conduct interviews and initial assessments, track and report on student progress, and collaborate with tutors and support staff to ensure learners achieve their goals
- Curriculum & Quality – Develop schemes of work, contribute to curriculum planning, participate in moderation and quality assurance processes, and ensure compliance with awarding body standards.
- Professional Knowledge & Development – Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ESOL, inclusive learning, and FE sector developments, and engage in reflective practice and continuous professional development.
- Compliance & Safeguarding – Uphold safeguarding, equality, and health & safety standards, and complete all administrative and statutory duties in line with college policies and procedures.
About you:
- Qualifications & Training – Holds a degree in ESOL/English or related subject, CELTA or Trinity ESOL teaching qualification, and GCSEs (A–C) in English and Maths; willing to work towards DET or PGCE if not already held.
- Teaching Experience – Proven success teaching ESOL across a range of levels and age groups, including Functional Skills English and adult/evening classes.
- Knowledge & Values – Demonstrates strong understanding of equality and diversity, inclusive teaching practices, and a commitment to learner success and progression.
- Professional Skills – Excellent communication, self-motivation, and enthusiasm, with a focus on achieving high retention and success rates.
- Flexibility & Mobility – Holds a full driving licence with access to a vehicle for travel across sites, and is available to deliver evening classes as required.

What is an Associate?
Associates work on a short term basis as assigned. They teach or provide support services and they work with and are supported by core staff. As an Associate you will be issued with an Associate agreement, under this Agreement period you will be eligible to work on assignments offered to you. Typically an agreement runs from January to December and may be renewed thereafter.
