The Chalk Hills Academy have a great opportunity for an experienced Specialist Science Technician to join their team on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing timely and effective technician support to all teachers in the Science department under the direction and support of the Head Science Technician. The post involves the preparation of practical scientific activities, maintenance of scientific apparatus and contributing to the upkeep and organisation of resources. As well as having an interest in science, the successful candidate will be a well-organised team player with the ability to prioritise their workload and a can-do approach. Previous experience in a laboratory and/or educational context is desirable.

Science is a subject where you can really captivate students’ attention with various exciting experiments and interactive lessons. We have fantastic facilities dedicated to Science with modern, fully equipped labs and we are looking to appoint someone who will ensure the provision of high quality and timely services to support the delivery of the science curriculum across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. Whilst all Specialist Science Technicians are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to candidates with a Chemistry background.

Key Duties

Provide and prepare all equipment, chemicals and specimens for practical sessions and examinations.

Advise and support teaching staff in the safe and proper use of equipment and contribute to demonstrations as required.

Under the direction of the Senior Technician, carry out minor repairs to equipment.

Contribute to the maintenance of the laboratories and equipment in a clean, safe and tidy condition at all times.

The successful candidate will have

Strong Science knowledge – a background in Chemistry/ experience as a Lab Technician is desirable

Some experience in the care and/or education of children (experience within a school Laboratory desirable). Experience preferred but training can be provided for right person if they do not have relevant experience

Great team-working skills and ability to work independently

Excellent communication skills

Ability to prioritise and work efficiently

Enthusiastic, hard-working and organised

Willing attitude

Start date: 1st September 2025

Salary: AS 14 -20 £27,634- £30,596 FTE (dependent on experience) Actual pro rata salary £23,980-£26,551

Contract: Full time, Permanent, 39 weeks, Term-time only + INSET days, 37 hours per week
