Role: Estates and Facilities Assistant
Location: Shuttleworth College – Old Warden
Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £25,467 and £27,519 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
Hours/Weeks: 40 hours per week

About the role:
We are currently seeking an Estates and Facilities Assistant to join our Estates and Facilities department at The Bedford College Group.
As an Estates and Facilities Assistant, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
- Facilities & Security Operations – Ensure the safety and security of college premises through patrols, CCTV monitoring, alarm checks, and ID verification, while maintaining a visible and professional presence.
- Maintenance & Groundskeeping – Carry out minor repairs, monitor plant and equipment, maintain clean and safe grounds, and respond to seasonal hazards like snow and ice.
- Support Services & Portering – Manage deliveries, room setups, office moves, and waste disposal; respond to online requests and support college events and activities.
- Compliance & Statutory Duties – Perform health and safety checks, including fire alarm and Legionella testing, and ensure adherence to safeguarding, equality, and risk assessment procedures.
- Driving, Cleaning & External Use – Drive college vehicles, maintain cleanliness outside contracted hours, and supervise external use of facilities, ensuring spaces are ready for both internal and external users.
About you:
- Training & Safety Awareness – Willingness to undertake relevant training and gain basic health and safety knowledge to support a secure and effective working environment.
- Experience & Public Interaction – Experience working with the public and young people, with the ability to handle a variety of situations calmly and appropriately across age groups.
- Teamwork & Initiative – Able to work independently and collaboratively, contribute positively to team dynamics, and follow procedures and instructions effectively.
- Professionalism & College Values – Demonstrates reliability, punctuality, and a proactive approach, while upholding the College’s values of Student Focus, High Performance, Respect, Openness, and Honesty.
- Flexibility & Accessibility – Holds a clean driving licence with access to a vehicle, available to work across sites and weekends, and maintain appropriate boundaries with children and vulnerable adults.
