Hours: 37 hours per week during term time for 40 weeks per year
Salary: £27,414 to £28,233 pro rata per annum. Plus generous benefits including:

About the role
Are you passionate about helping students overcome communication barriers and thrive in education?

We are looking for a skilled and empathetic Specialist Learning Support Practitioner to join our Additional Learning Support team. In this role, you will provide targeted support to students with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), as well as those with hearing or visual impairments.

You will:
•    Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions to support speech production, language comprehension, and social communication.
•    Use evidence-based strategies and structured programmes to enhance students’ communication and academic engagement.
•    Collaborate with teachers, families, and external professionals to develop and implement individualised support plans.
•    Provide guidance and training to staff on supporting students with SLCN, hearing impairments, and visual impairments.
•    Monitor progress and adapt interventions to ensure students achieve their full potential.

About the Person
You are a compassionate and proactive professional with:
•    Experience supporting students with SLCN, hearing or visual impairments in educational settings, and delivering structured interventions.
•    Qualifications such as a Certificate in Speech and Language Support (e.g., ELKLAN), and safeguarding certification (or willingness to undertake training).
•    Skills in assessment, communication, and collaboration, with a strong understanding of speech and language development.
•    Attributes including creativity, patience, and a commitment to inclusive education.

About the College
We are a large, regional college serving a population across York and North Yorkshire of more one million people. Each year, we have approximately 4,000 school leavers, 1,000 apprentices, 2,000 adult students, and 400 higher-level students studying with us. 

Our wide range of education options span entry level programmes through to degrees, higher technical qualifications, and accredited professional courses to courses for professional development. Our apprenticeships can be studied from level 2 to level 5 across a range of different career pathways.
