Location: Bedford College – Cauldwell Street Campus
Salary/Benefits: £25 per hour
Hours/Weeks: 6 per week – 09.15 to 16.30
Contract Type: Sessional – Hourly Paid
About the role:
We are currently seeking an Associate Lecturer in Digital Skills for ESOL to join our ESOL and Basic Skills department at The Bedford College Group.
As a Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
- ESOL Teaching & Delivery – Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging ESOL lessons for 16–18 and adult learners across day and evening classes, using varied strategies and ILT resources to support learner development.
- Assessment & Learner Support – Conduct interviews and initial assessments, track and report student progress, provide tailored support, and liaise with relevant staff to ensure learner needs are met.
- Curriculum & Quality Assurance – Participate in curriculum planning, moderation, and evaluation processes, ensuring compliance with awarding body standards and contributing to continuous quality improvement.
- Professional Knowledge & Development – Maintain up-to-date expertise in ESOL, inclusive learning, and educational theory, while understanding the broader FE context and participating in ongoing professional development.
- Statutory Responsibilities – Uphold safeguarding, equality, health and safety, and training obligations in line with College policies, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and compliant learning environment.
About you:
- Essential Qualifications – Degree in ESOL/English or related field, CELTA or Trinity ESOL teaching qualification, and GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English; willingness to work towards DET or PGCE
- Teaching Experience – Proven success teaching ESOL across various levels and age groups, including Functional Skills English and evening classes.
- Inclusive Practice – Strong understanding of Equality and Diversity, with the ability to create inclusive, learner-focused environments.
- Professional Attributes – Excellent communication skills, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and committed to achieving high retention and success rates.
- Flexibility & Mobility – Full driving licence with access to a vehicle for travel across campuses, and availability to teach evening classes as required.
