About the role

The College is seeking a skilled Director of Governance & Compliance to advise, coordinate and ensure effective liaison between the Governing Body, the senior leaders, staff and students.

Bridgwater & Taunton College Governors have a wide range of expertise and experience, and most have served for many years. They have accumulated a wealth of experience in the college’s operations and the local community, and each Governor serves on a subcommittee to gain specific knowledge.

Who we are looking for

We seek a trusted advisor to support and be the clerk to the Governing Body. You will be a strong networker and communicator who is comfortable with presenting to the Board and working with other governance professionals to drive best practice across the sector. You will apply your experience to confidently lead and develop improvements to the governance structures, systems, and processes, developing the Board’s strategic oversight of risk, compliance, and constructive challenge will be welcomed.

As the ‘conscience’ of the College, you will provide independent, high-quality guidance on statutory, constitutional, operational, procedural and ethical issues as they affect the Board, its committees and subsidiaries.

Ideally, you will have experience supporting a further education governing body, but more importantly, you will grasp the legislative requirements expected of our Board and the regulatory environment in which our college operates.
