About Us:
THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF MOHAMMED’S INSPIRATIONAL JOURNEY
As the educational arm of Westminster City Council, Westminster Adult Education Service (WAES) is a world of extraordinary stories. From ESOL, English, Maths and Digital to Accounting, Community Learning, Childcare and Teaching and Languages to the Creative Arts and Culture, WAES’s courses offer unparalleled opportunities to grow, develop and acquire new skills. People like Mohammed work to inspire our residents to achieve their goals and enrich their lives through a huge range of stimulating and transformative learning experiences.
When he was 16 Mohammed came to London from a small town in the south of France and dived straight into the world of work. Once he’d found his feet and established himself, he decided he wanted to do some volunteering work and give something back to the community that had supported him on his first steps in the big city, so he approached WAES. They offered him a couple of hours a week for a few months, and he enjoyed it so much that when a temporary job in HR became available, he applied for it and was successful.
Fast forward a few years, and Mohammed is now working as a Funding and Compliance Manager, full time in the Management Information System department, and using his experience to encourage and inspire a new generation of Westminster citizens. As a member of the Kurdish community, he knows how difficult it can be to develop the skills, learnings and confidence to establish yourself in a new environment and is committed to sharing the story of his amazing journey, using it to illustrate how WAES can be a catalyst for positive growth and change.
Mohammed sees potential in everyone he meets and is dedicated to encouraging people to grasp the opportunities they’re offered with both hands. And WAES is at the heart of Westminster’s commitment to helping everyone in our diverse communities to achieve their potential and transform their lives.

The Role:
As an Inclusive Pathways and ALS Curriculum Manager, you can make your own contribution to Westminster’s success. This is a pivotal leadership role where you’ll shape inclusive education at WAES, ensuring learners with additional needs receive the support, opportunities, and guidance they need to succeed – in learning, in work, and in life.
You’ll lead a dedicated, multidisciplinary team delivering both SEND provision and ALS support across the organisation. The team brings together professionals with expertise in autism, dyslexia, mental health, education, employability and social care – united by a shared passion for making a real difference. With a strong emphasis on learner-centred outcomes, you’ll oversee and continuously improve the quality, effectiveness, and compliance of all provision – including High Needs contracts, EHCP consultations, and pre-enrolment support. You will ensure all assessments are timely and relevant, including those for assistive technology, adapted learning resources, DSA, and general needs. Strategies for teaching and support will be effectively shared across curriculum teams to ensure learners receive joined-up support.
You will work closely with the exams team to ensure the timely and accurate implementation of Exam Access Arrangements, supported by robust communication and data-sharing processes. As a key point of contact, you’ll also provide specialist guidance to curriculum colleagues, prospective learners, and external agencies.
As a senior leader within WAES, you will take responsibility for overseeing recruitment, appraisals, target setting, and CPD. You’ll lead learning walks, observations, and quality interventions, and ensure continuous development through scholarly activity, research, and inclusive training initiatives. You will also create a culture of collaboration and accountability, inspiring your team to deliver consistently high standards and feel confident in their roles.
Promoting the Preparing for Adulthood agenda will be central to your work, alongside embedding inclusive practice across curriculum areas, the physical environment, and learner services. You’ll contribute to business planning and manage departmental budgets, ensuring that all provision remains financially sustainable and aligned with organisational goals.
You’ll work closely with internal and external stakeholders – including local authorities, care services, and education providers – to align support, coordinate responses to EHCP consultations, and ensure learners with SEND are supported holistically. Where required, you will represent the college in mediation or tribunal cases, providing expert insight into complex support needs and statutory responsibilities.
In addition, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of both staff and students, fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. You’ll monitor student feedback and satisfaction, using data and insights to refine services and exceed performance benchmarks.
This is a role where your leadership can make a lasting difference – shaping the future of inclusive education at WAES, empowering learners to thrive, and ensuring staff feel supported to perform at their very best.
Please refer to the Job Description for more information.
About You:
You will bring significant experience working within a post-16 or adult education environment, with a strong understanding of the needs of learners with SEND and a clear commitment to inclusive practice. Whether through teaching or directly supporting learners aged 16+ or 19+, you’ll have a working knowledge of current issues in Further Education, particularly around SEND legislation and the implementation of the SEND Code of Practice.
Your understanding of inclusive teaching, learning and support – and the central importance of equality, diversity and inclusion – will underpin everything you do. You will have in-depth knowledge of ALS funding streams, conditions, and methodologies, including High Needs funding and the requirements of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
You will also have a demonstrable track record of improving student progress and achievement through effective cross-organisational working and inclusive, student-centred approaches. As a confident and experienced team leader, you’ll bring extensive experience in managing, motivating and developing both teaching and support staff, while maintaining high standards and strong outcomes.
With excellent organisational skills, you’re able to manage a varied workload, including administrative processes relating to SEND assessments and learner support. Your strong verbal and written communication skills enable you to build trust, influence others and clearly convey complex information to a range of audiences.
You’ll also be confident using digital tools – including Office 365 – to support teaching, coordination and performance monitoring. You understand the importance of safeguarding and will be well-versed in how legislation applies within an educational setting, with a clear commitment to creating safe and supportive environments for all learners.
Above all, you are a values-driven professional, passionate about enabling learners to succeed and ready to make a meaningful impact at WAES.
