Games Design Lecturer

Barnet and Southgate College is a vibrant and forward-thinking further education institution dedicated to providing high-quality learning experiences. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with experience in Games Design and VFX who is looking to take the next step into a teaching career within this exciting and rapidly growing field. In this role, you will be responsible for both teaching and curriculum leadership across our Games Design provision. You will deliver engaging, practical lessons to Level 3 students, equipping them with the technical and creative skills needed for a future in the games design and visual effects (VFX) industries. In addition, you will lead our Level 2 Games Design programme, overseeing curriculum planning, monitoring student progress, and supporting learners as they build their skills and prepare to advance in their studies.

Your industry insight and educational guidance will help students gain a strong understanding of current practices, while also contributing to the continued development and success of the department.

Key Responsibilities:

Course Leadership for Level 2 Programme.

Plan and deliver high-quality lessons in Games Design and VFX for Level 2 and Level 3 students.

Teach software such as Unity, Unreal Engine, Adobe Creative Suite, Blender, and other relevant tools.

Guide students through the entire game development and VFX process, including concept design, 3D modelling, animation, and post-production.

Develop engaging project briefs that reflect current industry trends.

Support learners in building a professional portfolio of work.

Provide constructive feedback and assessments to foster student growth and development.

Maintain an up-to-date understanding of trends and technologies in games design and VFX.

Essential Requirements:

A degree or equivalent qualification in Games Design, VFX, or a related field.

Experience teaching or working within the games design or VFX industries.

Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine, Blender, Adobe Creative Suite).

Strong understanding of both 2D and 3D design principles.

Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

A commitment to supporting and nurturing students’ creative talents.

Teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards one).

Desirable:

Industry connections that can help enhance the student learning experience.

Knowledge of current trends in both the gaming and visual effects industries.

Experience in mentoring or coaching students in a project-based environment.
