Job description
Providing subject specific school improvement strategies to our Primary academies, you will have the opportunity to develop and enhance English in a wide variety of schools, impacting classroom practice, and ultimately enhancing pupil outcomes.
We’re looking for three passionate English Adviser to join our Primary School Improvement Team. Work with us to enhance teaching and outcomes in English, either from home or at one of our Primary Academies. Collaborate with a dynamic team including Directors and subject experts to drive sustainable improvements and share best practices, including:
- Supporting schools in addressing development areas
- Develop English networks, online forums, and CPD resources
- Facilitate regional clusters to build capacity
- Deliver professional development to subject leaders and teachers
You will have
- Experience in improving English teaching and outcomes
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to create support resources and CPD opportunities
- Experience in promoting sustainable improvements
The Role
Working with the Primary School Improvement Team, based at school or home, on the South coast or in the North. You will work with our schools to improve teaching and outcomes in English. You will join a team which includes a Director for Primary Education, Regional Directors and subject advisers.
As part of the English team, you will play a key role in developing CPD and resources, focusing on Trust wide priorities, projects, curriculum development and assessment. You will work directly with senior leaders, English subject leaders, teachers and support staff to support schools to address their areas of development. You will develop cluster English networks, online forums, support resources and CPD opportunities.
The successful candidate will support and facilitate regional clusters to build their own capacity and promote sustainable improvements. You will be instrumental in sharing best practice as well as delivering regular professional development to subject leaders and teachers to meet these goals.
This role will be line managed by the Senior English Adviser.
About You
The ideal candidate will:
- Have extensive experience of teaching in the primary phase.
- Have proven experience in improving English across more than one school
- Have experience of and credibility in leading others, including experience of coaching teachers to improve.
- Have proven experience of identifying, and implementing effective strategies for improving outcomes in schools
- Have outstanding subject knowledge and be able to demonstrate their passion and enthusiasm for communicating this to others.
- Be able to demonstrate resilience, motivation and commitment to driving up standards of achievement.
- Have an up-to-date knowledge of the English curriculum and assessment requirements and be keen to contribute to current curriculum development.
- Be excited to share their knowledge and expertise with a diverse family of schools
- Have outstanding communication skills, with the ability to leverage influence with all levels of the organisation, and be able to work effectively with a team of subject leaders.
- An ability to combine rigour and high expectations with personal tact and discretion.
- Understand and respect the importance of diverse cultures and faiths within the school, with a commitment to equal opportunities.
- The ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and boundaries with young people.

Contract: Permanent part-time, term time only (3 days a week or 6 days over a fortnight – with flexibility) or internal 2-year secondment. Offering 2 positions.
Interviews will be held at a United Learning school in the relevant region on Monday 9th June (Southern – Portsmouth) and Wednesday 11 June (Northern – Barnsley). You must be available for the date of the region you are interested in.
