The People & Culture team at Bath College launched our new strategy in January 2025 and we are recruiting an HR Advisor to support the delivery of this ambitious programme. You’ll help us ensure we retain great staff, supporting both staff development and reward and recognition programmes for all staff. We have a busy schedule of work that will ensure our staff can deliver a great experience for our learners, preparing them for great futures. You’ll work with The People and Culture team on employee relations issues, managing absence and supporting staff well-being in the workplace, some project work, as well as supporting managers with their staff to ensure we provide our staff with the right tools, confidence and knowledge to perform their duties and re-enforce that Bath College is a great place to work.
You’ll need experience of working in a Human Resources team, specifically employee relations and be Level 5 CIPD qualified or working towards this. We are looking for a colleague who is confident to work with staff and managers and who understands best current practice. You’ll need to have experience of working with HR systems, and be keen to help us maximise how we use them. The role is a combination of advising staff and managers and monitoring quality, ensuring compliance and implementing improvements.

Key Responsibilities
- Organising and delivering first day induction, ensuring that people joining the College have a positive experience.
- Monitoring and supporting probation processes, advising line managers and following up issues, processing successful probation review documents, updating systems as needed
- Creating contracts of employment and bank worker agreements, ensuring accuracy, and return of all signed documents
- Preparing and processing contract change letters, updating the employee system and recording these on the paylog for audit purposes
- Advising managers and staff on day-to-day employment queries, in person, via email and Teams.
- Lead on first stage of attendance management, identifying areas for improvement and advising managers on appropriate and timely actions
- Supporting managers and the People & Culture Business Partner with informal and formal processes including capability, conduct and grievances. This includes notetaking as and when required and ensuring that these are accurate and completed in a timely manner

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- CIPD Level 5 qualification or significant relevant experience and willingness to work towards the qualification
- 4 x Level 2 (e.g. GCSE C or equivalent) including English and Maths
- A high standard of written and verbal communication, able to communicate effectively with colleagues from all backgrounds
- Good working knowledge of current practice in a human resources department
- E-literacy and competence in Microsoft Office including preparing professional standard documents in MS Word, and manipulation of data in Excel, including basic Excel formulas, and presentation of data
