Student Information Services – Data Protection Manager

DN Colleges Group is looking to employ a Data Protection Manager to work across the group.

Reporting to the Director of Student Information Services, the successful candidate will perform a leading role with responsibility in maintaining oversight and developing the management of personal information held by the college; supporting and promoting adherence to information legislation and providing guidance across a range of related activities; they will have a key involvement in the management of high impact incidents involving personal data.

Key responsibilities will include:

Providing professional and specialist advice, guidance, and leadership in matters of data protection and all aspects relating to the governance and security of personal information.

Working proactively as a subject matter expert, including sharing knowledge and expertise with relation to:Data sharing agreements

Data protection impact assessments

Coordination of the day-to-day request/response processes for information requests made via:DSARs (Data Subject Access Requests)

Personal data breaches and/or data incidents

Freedom of Information requests

Maintaining the register of requests/incidents and monitoring progress and compliance with specified timeframes.

Conducting quality and compliance checks of personal information and processes.

Supporting colleagues where appropriate.

Production of reports to senior leaders and governors.

The suitable candidate will:

Have a current working knowledge and understanding of relevant information legislation, including:UK GDPR

Data Protection Act 2018

Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations

Freedom of Information Act 2000

Experience and knowledge to:Recognise and advise upon the potential impacts of relevant information legislation on the college’s existing and emerging information systems, projects, and processes

Ability to communicate facts and ideas to a range of audiences and people at all levels in an engaging and informative way

A professional qualification in information governance is desirable.
