Job Details
Bank contract, salary is pro rata. Hours will vary to cover holidays and sickness – up to 20 per month (variable to meet business needs eg. 4 hours on a weekend or half a day in the week.)
To contribute to the departments high standard of animal welfare by carrying out animal husbandry duties to meet the individual needs of the animals within the collection. Key Responsibilities
Animal husbandry duties
- Maintain animal records and ensure high standards of animal health, hygiene and welfare are maintained
- To observe and maintain health and Safety documentation and procedures in line with College Policy.
To work individually or as part of a small team to perform routine husbandry duties including, but not limited to:
- Cleaning, feeding and provision of water to a range of domesticated and exotic species of animals.
- Correct disposal of waste to maintain a clean, safe and tidy environment
- Administer medication to animals as requested by supervisor
- Health checking the animals, including accurate recording keeping
- Monitor stock supplies and report requirements to the animal house supervisor as necessary
- Update and report on signs of unusual behaviour/health problems of any animal
- Record vet visits, status of breeding animal, animal death and equipment or pen/enclosure repairs as required
- General/low level maintenance of enclosures/pens and reporting the need for any further repairs which may be necessary
- Communicate with external agencies if required. E.g Vets
- Make welfare decisions when required and communicate this with the supervisor
- Purchase fresh food for animals locally and transport it back to the College.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Level 2 or above in Animal Care with good or above grades
- Level 2 minimum in English and Maths
- Up to date sector knowledge
- Health & Safety requirements specifically to the Animal Care sector
