Job title: Headteacher – Millgate School, Discovery Trust

Salary: L23-L28 (£85,529-£96,673)

Location: Leicester

Start date: September 2025 or January 2026

Do you have the vision and passion to lead our dedicated team and drive our mission forward?

Millgate School in Leicester is seeking an exceptional Headteacher for our vibrant, inclusive school community, committed to supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs aged 8-16. We place each child at the centre of everything we do. Our curriculum, inspired by students’ stories, is designed to help them develop, grow, and progress, and has been rated Outstanding by Ofsted in November 2024. We are proud to be part of the Discovery Trust, known for its commitment to excellence in education, providing robust support and resources to its member primary, secondary and special schools.

We passionately believe in transforming lives and inspiring futures. Relationships are key; we pride ourselves on knowing our pupils and their families, ensuring they receive the best care and support. Millgate School’s curriculum is uncompromising in supporting each child’s needs. Inspired by their stories, our curriculum sets out an ambitious, chapter-by-chapter journey. We focus on building resilience, self-esteem, and positive behaviour, integrating real-world experiences into learning, helping students connect their education to life beyond school. We prepare students to navigate their own successful futures, equipping them with the skills and confidence to write their next chapters.

You are likely to be an inspirational, ambitious Headteacher looking for a new challenge, sharing our belief that every young person should have the opportunity to discover their true potential and bringing an exemplary track record of leadership in schools. Our new Headteacher is certainly most likely to be working in a specialist setting, ideally with experience of SEMH needs, but you could also be an experienced secondary leader in mainstream who has a commitment to inclusive education and strong experience in SEND. As part of Discovery Trust, you’ll be given the autonomy to lead and shape the school, as well as every opportunity to work collaboratively with talented leaders across the trust and grow in your career.

In return, we can offer you exceptional support and an exciting career within a supportive and dynamic organisation. If you are a dedicated, inclusive and driven senior leader, then do get in touch. For an informal (and confidential) conversation and to find out more about the stages of the application process, please contact Propelo on 01273 222 877 or email: discovery@propelo.co.uk. Closing date for applications:  Thursday 15th May, 10am

Interviews:  22nd and 23rd May

Discovery Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful candidate invited to interview will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring service (DBS) check and references will be sought prior to the interview taking place.
