The successful candidate will be self-employed and invoice North Somerset Council for their services.  The successful applicant will not be employed by North Somerset Council.

The Education Excellence Partnership Board (EEPB) in North Somerset plays a vital role in shaping a cohesive and ambitious education community. Comprising representatives from the local authority, multi-academy trusts, and school leaders, the Board works together to ensure every child and young person in North Somerset has access to outstanding educational opportunities.

We are seeking an Independent Chair to lead the EEPB, champion its shared vision, and steer its strategic initiatives. As Chair, you will work with Board members to address critical issues and support the development of education in the region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the strategic lead for the EEPB, preparing for and leading meetings with a constructive and purposeful approach.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, growth, and change to drive improvements in education.
  • Chair sub-committees or working groups established by the Board.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and hold members accountable to shared goals.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is inspired by the opportunity to improve outcomes for children through partnership working.
  • Has significant experience of senior leadership in education or education policy.
  • Can create an environment of trust, openness, and integrity.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Has the authority, confidence, and credibility to challenge constructively and hold others to account.
  • Can build and sustain effective partnerships.

Commitment and Remuneration:
The role requires up to 12 days per year, with flexibility to accommodate meeting schedules. Days worked will be remunerated at £500 per day.
