Senior Leader

Are you an excellent teaching professional with experience of working collaboratively with teams of teachers to raise standards for all students? Are you looking for the opportunity to develop your leadership skills at one of the most dynamic and successful British international schools worldwide?

The British School in the Netherlands (BSN) is now seeking an experienced Senior Leader or a Deputy Headteacher of a smaller school, to join our Junior School Vlaskamp (JSV) campus as a member of its Teaching and Learning Senior Team. This is a non-class based role.

The Post

You are an excellent practitioner with a track record of outstanding teaching across the Primary age range including Early years. You have the ability to inspire and motivate staff through leading practice in classrooms and by facilitating impactful professional learning opportunities. You have experience of developing the capacity and capability of other leaders so that they have the skills to lead their own teams and improve the practice across their year groups / subject.

You will work in partnership with staff within and across the campus to enhance the curriculum, assessment and pedagogy such that all students access a challenging, stimulating and contextually rich learning experience. This will involve leading practice to ensure all students are making progress and teaching quality is of the highest standard. Specific expertise in supporting teachers with the teaching of English (oracy, reading and writing) and the Maths Mastery approach, is essential for this post.

You will work collaboratively with middle leaders across the campus, to build their capacity and capability such that they feel empowered to lead teaching and learning within their year group / subject.

You will work in partnership with staff across the three Junior and two Senior School campuses on specific cross school responsibilities, to help to build a 3-11 learning continuum and one school ‘narrative’.

You will have specific responsibility for ensuring that the staffing arrangements are set up for each day and that cover arrangements are managed in such a way that there is minimum disruption to student learning. This is an operational element of the role which has a significant impact on the successful smooth running of the daily provision.

Junior School Vlaskamp

Junior School Vlaskamp (JSV) is home to around 580 students of 62 nationalities, aged 3-11 years. Students come from a wide range of backgrounds and school systems, making the community truly international and inclusive. Learning is personalised to ensure each student makes maximum progress within a nurturing caring environment. Parents are welcomed into the school and play an active part in the learning of their child. Workshops are well attended as parents willingly work in partnership with the school.

JSV is housed in a contemporary, attractive, award-winning building, which was purpose built in 1998. The campus has a large, stimulating outdoor area including an exclusive space designed to suit the learning needs of the Foundation Stage students. The quality of equipment and administrative technology is centrally supported and all classrooms have first class technology facilities.

There are four classes within each year group, with a maximum of 24 students per class. Each year group is led by a Year Leader, who ensures there is consistent pedagogy, curriculum planning and assessment, across the classes. They are supported by the Teaching and Learning Senior Team members.

The curriculum provision is enriched by specialist teaching of Dutch, Music and Physical Education. Specific intervention is provided throughout the school for students new to English and those with Additional Educational Need by a team of specialist teachers and teaching assistant deployed to each year group.

All staff contribute to the running of the very popular Co-Curricular Activity programme run after school.
