This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to continue to implement and develop the Library’s apprentice and volunteer schemes, playing a key role in making our intellectual heritage accessible to everyone.
This is a challenging role in which you will collaborate with colleagues, schools, FE institutions and suppliers to implement, operate and develop our new apprenticeships and volunteer schemes at our sites, north and south. You’ll ensure high-quality provision in accordance with good practice and government requirements while keeping within financial limits.
You’ll be an experienced apprenticeships manager, up to date with the latest changes to the national apprenticeship framework, and highly skilled in listening to and influencing internal and external stakeholders. You’ll be committed to developing people and the principles of volunteering as well as sharing a wider appreciation of human resource management.
We are working to achieve a diverse and representative workforce at all levels within the British Library. This is a part-time position, working with the apprenticeships manager (also 0.5FTE) who is based at our site in Boston Spa, West Yorkshire. Precise working patterns would be discussed during the selection process.
As one of the world’s great libraries, our duty is to preserve the nation’s intellectual memory for the future. At present we have well over 150 million items, in most known languages, with three million new items added every year. We have manuscripts, maps, newspapers, magazines, prints and drawings, music scores, and patents. We operate the world’s largest document delivery service providing millions of items a year to customers all over the world. What matters to us is that we preserve the national memory and enable knowledge to be created both now and in the future.
In return we offer a competitive salary and a number of excellent benefits. Our pension scheme is one of the most valuable benefits we offer, as our staff can become members of the Alpha Pension Scheme where the Library contributes 26.6%. Another significant benefit the Library provides is the provision of a flexible working hour’s scheme which could allow you to work your hours flexibly over the week and to take up to 5 days flexi leave in a 3 month period. This is on top of 25 days holiday from entry and public and privilege holidays.
