As one of the largest acute Trusts in the UK – and with more than 20,000 employees – Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is on an exciting mission to deliver high-quality care to the people of Manchester, Trafford and beyond. Our vision is to create and deliver a seamless 24/7 service that extends beyond excellent care within our nine hospitals to well-supported community services within our Local Care Organisation.

The third largest provider of specialist Services in the NHS, MFT is a forward-thinking Academic Science Centre at the heart of Health Innovation and a leading teaching hospital. We are excited to be recruiting for the role of Head of Apprenticeships who will be a key contributor to this success. Responsible for the development and implementation of the Trust’s Apprenticeship Strategy, your main aim will be enabling a culture of learning and building a competent, capable, flexible and adaptable workforce to deliver exemplary care for all our patients. A unique role for a compassionate and driven leader who is able to demonstrate the skills and experience required to excel.

As the Head of Apprenticeships, you will support the Group and hospital Leadership teams through the provision of highly specialised advice and support and act as a key contributor and enabler of the GM Apprenticeship Strategy in partnership with key stakeholders across the region. What’s more, you will be specifically responsible for leading on performance monitoring and providing assurance on key workforce indicators relating to apprenticeships. You will also be accountable for ensuring the apprenticeship programmes delivered as an employer provider meet Ofsted and ESFA quality assurance processes and procedures ensuring MFT is recognised as a centre of excellence in providing outstanding apprenticeships.

As a senior member of the Workforce and OD team, you will have substantial experience of working in a similar role within a complex organisation and have in depth knowledge of the national apprenticeship agenda and experience in designing and implementing apprenticeship standards both as a provider and as a commissioner. A natural influencer with impressive communication skills, you’ll be an open minded individual with a naturally flexible and supportive style and you will get buy in from others with ease.

In addition, you will bring your amazing project management skills and an ability to think conceptually and creatively, challenging ‘what’ we do and ‘why’. You will be able to use your leadership skills to work confidently with colleagues at a senior level and will use your drive, energy and enthusiasm to develop and implement a varied and challenging agenda.

This is a truly valuable opportunity to take your career to the next level. With the support of committed leadership colleagues and the chance to really develop your own skills in the role, you will witness your vision and efforts having a direct impact on the lives of thousands of our patients across Manchester. In essence, we believe in providing a vibrant and engaging working atmosphere for our workforce, with fantastic career progression and the scope to make the most of your skills. If you’re excited by this concept and have the will to deliver optimum results, then we’d love to hear from you.
