Teacher of English
Part-time,0.4 – 0.6, Permanent
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to teach Level 2 English (GCSE and Functional Skills).
We are looking for someone who is passionate about English and who can share their enthusiasm to motivate students to achieve.
At post-16, students who have not achieved a grade 4 (grade C) in GCSE English must re-sit a level 2 qualification as part of the conditions which the Government set for funding students’ education. For students at Scarborough Sixth Form College who achieve a grade 3 in GCSE English Language, we offer a resit in GCSE English Language with AQA. For students at Scarborough Sixth Form College who achieve less than a grade 3, we offer Functional Skills English level 1 and/or 2 as appropriate with Edexcel.
Although numbers vary from year to year, there are typically around 100 to 150 students on this re-sit programme each year.
By their nature, students re-sitting English may have barriers to their learning, whether that is motivation, weak prior learning or limited literacy skills, however we believe that all students can and should achieve a pass in English before they leave college for the next steps in their education or career. We are pleased to say that our Level 2 English results consistently exceed the national average for our sector.
Applications are welcome from experienced and newly-qualified teachers.
The successful candidate will be joining a college with a supportive culture and high expectations for our students. The Languages team, led by Tania Exley-Moore, are experienced, organised, collaborative and strongly committed to our students’ achievement and success.
Should you be successful at interview you can look forward to contributing to an excellent team and sharing the rewards of teaching our learners: helping them on to their next stage of education, employment or apprenticeship.
The successful candidate will be appointed to the national pay scales for Teachers in Sixth Form Colleges, within the range £23,396 p.a. to £38,748 p.a., dependent on experience.
The contract will be on a part-time, permanent basis, commencing September 2019.
