About the role
The role of the SPA is crucial. SPAs work under the leadership of the Head of Year Achievement with the Assistant Principal (Behaviour) or Assistant Principal (Achievement), contributing to the day-to-day organisation and management of student welfare in their year group and across the Academy. They play a vital role in contributing to the culture, ethos and well-being of the whole Academy.
36.6 hours per week, term time only. Permanent role.

Who we are looking for
Meet HLTA standards or equivalent qualification or experience
A minimum of two years’ experience of working with children (either paid or unpaid capacity) preferably in an education setting
Experience of SIMS packages
Experience of working as part of a team
Experience of managing student behaviour
Understanding of the main challenges for pupils in the secondary sector
Ability to deal with a range of different pupil behaviours
Understanding of behaviour management strategies
Awareness of Inclusion within a school setting
An accomplished user of ICT and ability to share skills with other team members
Ability to work sensitively and effectively with parents, pupils, staff and outside agencies
Ability to promote a positive ethos
Good communication skills
Able to form and maintain appropriate professional relationships and boundaries with children and young people
Ability to supervise students effectively both in and out of school in line with the Academy’s behaviour policy
Ability to deal with sensitive information in a confidential manner
Ability to provide a good role model to young students and promote a positive ethos
Ability to use own initiative and work flexibly as well as part of a team
Ability to remain calm when dealing with situations involving challenging behaviour
Ability to forge positive relationships with parents, particularly those hard to reach
Ability to judge when advice or assistance is needed to meet the needs of students, and to react calmly and quickly in an emergency
Ability to organise own work and be self-motivated
Ability to be empathetic towards students and adults
Professional appearance and conduct
A committed life-long learner, willing to undertake further training
Appearance to inspire confidence in community and with students
Good punctuality, attendance and time management
