Role Purpose

Affordable Housing Providers Co-ordinator

This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of the most diverse, vibrant and exciting boroughs in the capital. Tower Hamlets in London’s East End regularly produces the most affordable housing in any one local authority area in the country. This is achieved through close partnership working with our Registered Providers who deliver the large majority of affordable housing that our growing population needs. The successful candidate we are seeking will be key to maintaining and improving the borough’s high affordable housing output and deliver wider outcomes, such as regeneration, in the process.

Key Responsibilities

The postholder will be based within the Affordable Housing Development and Partnerships Team in the Place Directorate and will work closely with the Tower Hamlets Housing Forum (THHF). This is the partnership between the Council and the Registered Providers responsible for developing and managing affordable housing stock in the borough.

The main objectives of the Forum are:

• To assist in the delivery of the Council’s strategic housing and related community plan objectives.

• To work in partnership with the Council and social landlords to develop good practice and continuous improvement in housing management, maintenance and the development of sustainable communities in Tower Hamlets.

• To share good practice and support capacity building initiatives and opportunities for engagement amongst member organisations and residents.

You can read more about the THHF by following this link Tower Hamlets Housing Forum

The successful candidate will work with Registered Providers (RPs) who work together at the Tower Hamlets Housing Forum and its eight sub-groups covering the following issues:

Development, Housing Management, Community Involvement Network, Asset Management, Common Housing Register, Benchmarking, Public Realm and Anti-Social Behaviour. This is in addition to Special Project Groups which are established when needed. The RPs work together to share good practice and ensure that new and existing housing is of a high standard and meets the needs of Tower Hamlets’ diverse communities, and that sufficient multi-tenure housing is provided to meet the needs of a changing population. This is reflected in the Directorate’s strategic objective to “increase the availability of good quality housing, including family-sized homes, across all tenures.”

The core duties of the post-holder will include contributing to the work of the partnership by acting as the Council’s Lead Officer on some of the sub groups and assisting in the delivery of agreed initiatives and projects. Supporting the work of the Chair of the THHF Executive is an essential aspect of the post and will involve contributing to the development and monitoring of the Forum’s priorities, organising agendas and ensuring the dissemination of information.

The post-holder will have to build and maintain a close working relationship with senior officers at RPs and collect, analyse and present performance monitoring information. The Lead Cabinet Member for Housing and the Executive Mayor take an active interest in housing in the borough and you will have to develop an excellent relationship with our politicians.

We need someone who is keen to make a difference, who understands the impact housing issues have on the health and wellbeing of residents. You will help us respond to our customers’ needs, be dynamic and able to convey clear information through report writing and presentations to achieve results.

The outcome of this work can help transform lives.
