Bournemouth & Poole are looking for a Student Support Mentor who will be responsible for monitoring and supporting students who are considered to be at risk, vulnerable or disengage. You will meet with individual and groups of ‘At risk’ students to ensure that are supported and appropriately referred to internal and external support such as Counselling and Career Guidance.
You will liaise closely with course and personal tutors over student progress and personal development recording all information / interactions on pro-monitor, supporting and making internal referrals as required. You will also contribute to and participate in awareness campaigns, education programmes aimed at promoting safeguarding, wellbeing and personal development.
Additionally, you will participate in The College’s appraisal process and to undertake any training that may be appropriate and attend departmental, directorate and curriculum team and support meetings when necessary.
Key responsibilities, skills and attitudes
A broad knowledge of equality issues and an ability to implement equal opportunities initiatives
Experience in liaising effectively with tutors
Experience of working within policies and procedures specifically confidentiality and child protection / safeguarding
Able to work as part of a diverse and effective team
Relevant qualification at level 3 or above
Level 2 in English and Maths
Able to travel between College sites
Enthusiastic about working with young people
Experience working with social care and external agencies (desirable)
Ability to produce clear and accurate statistical and written reports to agreed deadlines (desirable)
