We are seeking a talented, enthusiastic and committed individual to teach on our A level Music course. Applications from new entrants to the profession are welcome, as well as from experienced teachers.
Music is taught in a modern, purpose built classroom with a dedicated computer suite and specialist software. There are also a number of well-equipped practice music rooms. Achievement in Music is good and in 2016-17 there were 100% pass rates at AS and A Level. However, for the right candidate there is still the opportunity to improve results even further, in particular by helping students to achieve the ‘next grade up’ and consequently improving the progress made by these learners. The successful applicant will therefore be a highly skilled musician, who is able to provide accurate guidance to our most talented music students, whilst also being able to inspire and encourage students to develop and practise more basic practical and theoretical competence.
An important feature of the role is to build on the College’s reputation and strengthen links with Music students and teachers in local partner schools, the Music Centre and other institutions in the surrounding area, with the ultimate aim of improving recruitment to this important subject. Additionally it is essential for musical activity among students within College to be promoted and developed by the successful candidate. Therefore the post includes an additional financial allowance for the development and enrichment of Music across the college and in the student community.
The College will consider re-introducing a music technology course into its curriculum and there will therefore be an opportunity for you to be involved in this – but it is not essential (music technology may not be part of your skillset or interest).
The right candidate will be committed, hard-working and have a desire to bring Music to life with imaginative learning activities, content targeted to the specification, and relevant well-managed assessment. You would be well supported, and would look forward to contributing to a committed hard-working team and sharing the rewards of teaching our learners.
The successful candidate will be appointed to the national pay scales for Teachers in Sixth Form Colleges, within the range £23,396 p.a. to £38,748 p.a., dependent on experience. Actual salary will be pro-rata to timetabled hours. In addition, the post will have an allowance of £2,244 p.a. for the wider development of music enrichment in the College including liaison with local and external partners
