We are seeking a strong ambassador and an experienced communicator who demonstrates a high level of interpersonal and networking skills that will ensure a strong public profile for AoC. As Chair, you will oversee delivery of effective governance and provide leadership for the Board, while working closely with the Chief Executive and AoC President to further develop AoC’s aims, objectives and goals.
The Association of Colleges (AoC) is the national voice for colleges and exists to promote and support their interests. Everything AoC does is aimed at helping colleges deliver their purpose and to make an impact. We believe that every community should be supported by a successful and sustainable college, which develops students, delivers relevant skills, and supports stronger communities, social justice, employers and the economy.
This is an exciting time to join AoC. The organisation has recently completed a review of its membership offer, ensuring colleges are receiving efficient and effective services, we have recently published our latest Strategic Plan to 2020, and have accomplished a company-wide rebrand to reflect our agility as an organisation.
Our current Chair, Carole Stott will soon complete her term of office, and as such, AoC is now seeking to recruit a new Chair of AoC Board. This is a post which provides a unique opportunity to take an integral role in a membership organisation created by colleges themselves.
The post is vital in supporting the AoC in its mission to champion and support the sector by enhancing colleges’ reputation, leading policy thinking, influencing decision-makers and advising colleges.
Whilst a college background is not essential to this post, you will evidence an understanding of the education and training sector, a passion for enriching lives through learning and an authentic approach to dealing with all stakeholders. You will also demonstrate a steadfast commitment to AoC’s mission and vision to ensure the success of the AoC, our members, and their learners.
The Board will approve the appointment of Chair in September 2018 and a handover will take place during October and November. Our new Chair will take up post in January 2019.
The Chair is expected to commit 80 annual days including attendance at meetings and events.
