Job Ref:

Harris Academy Merton opened in 2006 and serves students from Year 7 to Sixth Form. In 2008 we achieved a grading of 'Outstanding' by Ofsted, a judgment that was repeated under the more challenging criteria in 2012. The current student roll is 1250, with a planned increase in our Year 7 intake over the next year taking our numbers from 180 to 240 students. Applications for places greatly exceed the places available. The academy is set in seven acres of land containing six teaching blocks, a sports hall, a full size floodlit all weather pitch plus four full size floodlit tennis courts and our own playing fields as well as an administration building containing the assembly Hall and dining hall. We are favourably located for public transport with good local access to bus, mainline train and underground links, as well as on-site parking for vehicles and bicycles.

Due to the expansion of the academy roll, we are looking to appoint an enthusiastic qualified teacher to join our strong team of Science specialists who is able to contribute to raising standards in the classroom from KS3 to Post 16.

The Science area is generously staffed, with small class sizes, high level TA support, and IWB and excellent resources in every classroom. There is scope for a Lead Practitioner or Lead Practitioner Designate for the right candidate.

We are looking for:
•A well qualified specialist to teach General Science from KS3-KS5
•Someone with presence and authority who can deliver consistently good lessons
•A hard working, creative and enthusiastic team member
•QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree

We can offer you:
•The opportunity to work within an over-subscribed, ‘Outstanding’ academy
•A calm, well disciplined yet positive and innovative learning environment
•Excellent facilities and resources for staff and students
•Excellent record of GCSE results

As part of the Harris Federation, you can expect to work in an atmosphere of mutual support and co-operation. We offer an excellent NQT induction programme along with superb professional development and promotion opportunities within both the academy and the Harris Federation. If you are committed to the learning and well-being of young people, we welcome your application.

If you would like further information about the post, please contact Janette Bragginton, PA to the Principal, on 020 8623 1022 or email to braggintonj@harrismerton.org.uk.
