Join Team Turner – Apply to be our Free School’s Founding Assistant Principals

Do you believe that all students deserve access to the best that has been thought and known? That all can succeed in education given the right pedagogy, curriculum and clear parameters for conduct? Then join us in bringing aspects of some of the most successful Free Schools and Academies to an area of coastal disadvantage, joining our mission sea-change.

The Turner Free School is looking for exceptional candidates to establish a grammar-style school which delivers Success without Selection for all students. The Turner Free School will be an 11-18 provision, opening with 120 Year 7 pupils in September 2018, rising to 180 per year thereafter. This really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of our ambitious plans to improve education and opportunity for every child in Folkestone.

Our goal is to set a new standard in non-selective education through offering a rigorous knowledge-based curriculum, which will equip our students with cultural capital and enable them to thrive in education and in life. Ultimately, at the Turner Free School, we want every child to follow any dream, be able to achieve any goal and to be anything that they want to be!

In order to achieve this, we aim for all students to complete the EBACC and to aspire towards university or professional employment. Moreover, we are looking for candidates who are passionate about our students becoming: confident and engaged readers; able to speak an additional working language beyond Standard English (ideally French or Mandarin); and know how to develop tolerant and respectful citizens.

At the Turner Free School, we will create a strong community, which will be underpinned by excellent, courteous relationships between staff, students, parents and the local area. In addition, we will operate a system of Family Dining, which will be packed-lunch free, and where staff will dine with students to build relationships, ensure social inclusion, develop confidence in trying new foods, in order to ensure that all students are fully included, develop fluency in conversation, impeccable manners and the ability to show appreciation for those around them.

We are looking for Assistant Principals to lead in the following areas:

• Achievement – securing ambitious and inclusive excellence for all students in terms of access to learning, academic success and behaviour for learning if they face barriers. Ideal candidates will recognise the foundational role of reading in achievement, and will be passionate about enabling everyone to achieve a chronological or chronological + reading age by the end of Year 7.

• Academia – ensuring the delivery of exceptional teaching and assessment across the school, taking a active role in whole staff CPD, and bringing effective practices that reduce workload but improve outcomes. Ideal candidates will be familiar with the work of Willingham et al.

• Aspiration – leading on the school’s culture, including conduct, so that aspiration and community are the double helix of its DNA.

If you have the vision and drive to be part of our ambitious and dynamic team, get in touch.

The Turner Free School is part of Turner Schools, an innovative young Trust committed to giving a powerful education to local families through schools where children thrive and knowledge matters. Turner Schools is committed to safeguarding children and promoting their welfare. It expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Any appointment is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, including checks against the barred list.
Two references are required prior to commencement of employment.
We are an equal opportunities employer.
