A fabulous opportunity for a dynamic teacher and leader to change thousands of lives, in a unique work environment
What we do
SafeWise Bournemouth is an experiential safety, health, citizenship and life skills education centre featuring a full size indoor street scene with house, bus, car, train and much more. We teach visitors of all ages about a wide range of topics including fire, water, home, road and travel safety, health, crime, internet safety, bullying and mental wellbeing. These life skills are often marginalised in our education system, but we think they are as important as literacy and maths.
What we believe
Our philosophy is that every visitor should experience a fun and immersive learning environment in which they ‘discuss, decide and do’, rather than simply listening and being told. Talk, decision-making and practical activity in our realistic scenarios deliver memorable learning and motivate visitors in a way that is difficult to replicate in a classroom.
What we are looking for
We are seeking an outstanding teacher to lead our centre into an exciting new phase. You will motivate and lead the staff team and volunteer Visitor Guides, so the ability to connect with adults is as important as your skills with young people. You will research, develop, deliver and evaluate existing and new visitor programmes for primary and secondary pupils, over 16s, older people and those with special needs, so a passion for education and a keen interest in how people learn best is essential. You will grow positive local partnerships to support the centre, so you need to be an impressive communicator. You will be enthusiastically supported by our new Chief Executive and a growing team to build our audiences, our impact, and the income to support our essential work.
The detailed bit
The role will start in January 2018, or earlier if possible. This is a full time post, based at SafeWise Bournemouth but with regular travel to our other centres in Weymouth and Swindon and elsewhere on occasions. The postholder must be willing to work out of hours from time to time. Salary dependent on experience. We are open to job share for the right candidates.
Please see the formal Job Description and Person Specification for full details of the role, and browse our website at www.safewise.org for an overview of what we do. You are welcome to contact our Chief Executive Rob Hattersley for an informal chat about the role and to arrange to visit the centre, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 07969-011508.
Please send your Curriculum Vitae and a letter of application by email to email@example.com. Your letter should explain why you would like to be Safewise Bournemouth Manager, and outline why you think you would make a success of the role.
The closing date is Monday 2nd October 2017 at 9am. Interviews will be held during the week commencing Monday 9th.
