Designated Safeguarding Lead
We have an exciting opportunity at The Vale Academy for a Level 4 Designated Safeguarding Lead. You will be joining our inclusion team who have the children at the centre of everything they do. The Vale Academy is a great school where all children are provided with the opportunity to thrive.
You will be part of the dedicated and supportive inclusion team at The Vale Academy who work together to ensure that all our children are able to thrive in their learning, and that high standards of safeguarding are maintained within the academy.
The successful candidate will have:
Knowledge of the role voluntary organisations have in safeguarding
Knowledge of types of abuse and harm
Knowledge of legislation, government guidance and national frameworks for safeguarding children and adults at risk
Knowledge of the role and responsibilities of local key safeguarding agencies, including social services, MASH and the police
Knowledge of local social services processes for the assessment and referral of safeguarding concerns
Knowledge of local and national agencies that provide support for children, adults and their families
Ability to build effective working relationships with all stakeholders in particular parents
Ability to advise and support individuals at all levels within an organisation
Act with integrity and respect when working with others
Good administration and data analysis skills
Excellent communication skills
Strong influencing skills
Key Duties:
Support vulnerable families
Work with parents and carers to children who are susceptible of safeguarding concerns
Promote the value of education and encourage engagement in all matters relating to the child’s progress
Ensure pupils’ well-being is paramount on your agenda
Implement appropriate support for students to overcome learning barriers
Some safeguarding activities may be delegated to deputies, but the DSL will retain ultimate lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection.

Job Specifics
Start Date: January 2025
Salary: AS 21-25 £32,415- £35,535 FTE dependent on experience. Actual pro rata salary £29,572-£32,418
Contract: Permanent, Full-time, Term-time plus inset days + 2 weeks, 41 weeks per year, 37 hours per week
