Milton Keynes College have an exciting opportunity for a Library Assistant to be involved in delivering library and learning resource services to offenders at HMP Winchester.

The role as Library Assistant has several key elements which include developing a high-quality library service within the prison, supporting and developing activities with partner agencies – such as the Shannon Trust “Turning Pages” scheme, Reading Ahead, and selecting and acquiring library resources in consultation with colleagues and users to enable a vibrant provision.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to assist in the day-to-day running of the prison library. If you possess excellent communication and organisational skills, this is a fantastic opportunity to promote reading to learners and provide a high standard of service to all library users.

The working pattern for this full time role is Monday to Thursday 8am-5pm and Fridays 8am-12pm.

ABOUT HMP Winchester… HMP Winchester is a Category B male local prison holding young adult and adult remand and convicted prisoners, serving the courts in Hampshire. It has an operational capacity of 685 spaces. There is a Category C resettlement unit, called Westhill, which holds 129 spaces. The Hearn unit, with 40 places, is a recent addition to Westhill and it houses Cat C and Cat D prisoners and those on ROTL. There is also a 24-hour healthcare in-patient facility with capacity for 10 prisoners. Prison education runs all year-round, all-day Monday-Thursday and generally until lunchtime on a Friday. It operates in the main department, in Westhill and ins various other locations.
