Role: Head of Health & Safety

Location: Bedford College – Caudwell Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary from £45,000 DOE and Qualifications, 35 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, Teachers pension/LGPS, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37hrs per Week (1.0 FTE)

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Head of Health and Safety to join The Bedford College Group atCaudwell Campus.

As the Head of Health and Safety you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Setting new standards of excellence in health and safety management by providing expert advice, support and recommendations to ensure compliance with legislation, regulatory requirements, and best practice within key industry sectors linked to our study programmes.
  • Encouraging a culture of safety excellence and compliance across The Bedford College Group (TBCG) and to promote safe working practices, to ensure the wellbeing of our students, staff and visitors.
  • Managing, Developing and promoting health and safety policies and procedures to meet TBCG’s objectives to deliver high standards of health, safety and welfare.

About you:

  • Level 6 NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
  • A member of a recognised professional health and safety institute
  • An excellent knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety management
  • 10+ years relevant experience in Health and safety management
  • Experience of implementing strategy
  • Experience of developing policies and procedures
  • Experience of managing a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Excellent organisational skills. Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Excellent IT skills to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel etc.)
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing workload demands
  • Demonstrates the ability to work in line with The Bedford College Group’s values, policies and procedures, with particular reference to Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding and Health & Safety
  • Ability to travel to all campus locations for meetings, events, training etc.
  • Ability to adapt working hours to changing needs in the business when these occur

The Bedford College Group was formed in 2017 following the merger of Bedford College and Tresham College and is now the largest provider of education in the South East Midlands, with over 15,000 students passing through our doors each year.
