The Mead Educational Trust
Castle Mead Academy is characterised by high expectations, doing the simple things well, and the belief that all children can succeed. It is driven by a moral commitment to ‘grow a community of excellence’ for the benefit of all pupils across the city.
Opening as a free school in August 2019 with 240 Year 7 pupils, we now have a full complement of 1200 scholars – the first of whom are sitting their GCSEs this year.
The school benefits from a state-of-the-art £30m newbuild which opened in August 2021, and is situated on the picturesque riverside in the heart of historic Leicester.
We’re proud to be part of The Mead Educational Trust; a growing family of eight primary and five secondary schools in Leicester and Leicestershire. With a record of strong school improvement and willingness to innovate and take risks, our Trust has earned a regional and national reputation for excellence. More importantly though, we have always prioritised our young people and their needs. Our ethics and values have been fundamental to our development as an organisation and we are especially proud of our core purpose: ‘Together we make a positive difference’. While each school has its own identity, we are united in our commitment to this.
The Castle Mead team are a collective group of like-minded experts, who are aligned in their beliefs and unapologetically ambitious on behalf of scholars. Within a broad, balanced and rich curriculum, the school retains a special focus on the Ebacc subjects – and a slightly extended school day gives our young people opportunities to pursue new interests and broaden their horizons. This is particularly designed with the needs of disadvantaged learners in mind, to increase their cultural capital.
Our founding Principal is progressing to a trust-wide School Improvement role; hence we are looking for the right person to take on the leadership of our young, vibrant and Outstanding school (as judged by Ofsted, 2023). How we continue to accelerate and develop Castle Mead will undoubtedly be challenging, but for the right individual our collective potential is unlimited.
