About the job
Leicester Adult Skills and Learning Service (LASALS) offers a large and varied programme of educational qualification courses as well as extensive community-based provision. We have a diverse, enthusiastic student community, taught and supported by well qualified, dedicated staff.
We are looking for suitably qualified and experienced tutors for our English Functional Skills and Ascentis Progression Awards courses to join our highly successful English and Maths teaching team.
You must to able to work in a variety of adult learning settings across the city and to regularly travel to these venues, including in the evenings.
Your role
As an adult tutor, you will ensure that teaching reflects current good practice and meets the demands of LASALS quality assurance and awarding body expectations. By selecting resources appropriate to learners and outcomes, you will ensure that learners receive a positive experience and achieve their full potential in their learning journey. In addition, you will evaluate and provide continuous development to your teaching practice and have in place strategies that ensure maximum attendance, retention and achievement.
What you’ll need
As well as having excellent communication, interpersonal and administrative skills, you will have the appropriate qualifications, which include:
- Generic teaching qualification at Level 4
- Maths qualification at Level 2
- Level 2 IT qualification, or willingness to work towards it
- Level 5 English subject specialism, or willingness to work towards it
Alongside these qualifications you will have experience of teaching English Functional Skills to adults aged 18 years and above, from diverse groups. You should be able to demonstrate a commitment and enthusiasm for delivering quality learning experiences, identifying individual learning needs, designing and planning effective and engaging lessons. In addition, you will be able to confidently use relevant Information Learning Technology in and outside the classroom e.g. Google Classroom, Google Meet and other applications.

£24.50 – £27.30 per hour
Hours of work are between 2.5 and 10 hours per week.
