Principal & CEO | Bridgend College

Bridgend College is looking to appoint a Principal and Chief Executive Officer who can lead the College on the next step of what continues to be an exciting period of growth, development and success.

Location: Bridgend, South Wales

Salary: £142,000 – £152,000

Closing date:  Monday 8th January 2024 at 9 a.m.

Who we are

Bridgend College, located in the heart of South Wales, is a historic institution with a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning culture. Founded in 1928, the College has evolved over the years to support over 10,000 full and part-time learners across three campuses. Bridgend College has forged strong partnerships with Cardiff Metropolitan University, the University of South Wales, and the B-WBL Consortium to provide high-quality higher education and work-based learning.

The College collaborates with local businesses, the Regional Skills Partnership, Cardiff Capital Region, and Bridgend County Borough Council to address the educational needs of the community. They offer various lifelong learning courses, A-Level twilight provision, and the Junior Apprenticeship Programme, catering to a diverse range of learners. Additionally, the College operates specialist provisions for young people with additional learning needs, including Weston House, a residential facility, a day nursery, and a holiday playscheme.

About the role

Bridgend College has seen significant development in recent years, with the opening of the state-of-the-art STEAM Academy and plans for a new £80 million Town Centre campus. The institution is now in the penultimate year of its strategic plan and is looking for a new Principal & CEO to lead the College into 2030.

Who are we looking for?

The successful candidate will need substantial leadership experience, although not necessarily within the Welsh further education sector. They should demonstrate an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities within the sector, as well as an ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders, including college leaders, Welsh Government officials, community leaders, and employers.

The College values a creative and innovative approach to strategic thinking and expects the new Principal & CEO to collaborate with the Governing Body and the senior leadership team to continue the institution’s growth. The College’s working culture emphasizes respect, staff well-being, and a supportive and trusting environment.

The new leader is expected to be engaged and visible, promoting the College’s reputation, influencing decision-makers for the benefit of students and communities, and building positive relationships with peers. They should prioritise the interests of learners and the long-term prosperity of the College.

Bridgend College is committed to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusivity in its recruitment processes and encourages applications from underrepresented groups, including disabled, female, and minority applicants. The institution is open to making adjustments to support applicants throughout the application process.

Peridot Partners and Bridgend College are, together, committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and our client expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references before any final offer can be made.
