Kirklees College is a large successful FE college, currently Ofsted graded as Good. Operating across Kirklees with centres based in Huddersfield and Dewsbury.
The successful candidate who ideally will have worked in a previous or current public facing environment will have the opportunity to work within our estate of modern buildings, with excellent on-site facilities, such as a fully equipped gym, hair & beauty salons and fine dining restaurant.
The overall purpose of the post is ensuring the safety of learners, staff and visitors whilst using the college premises and facilities along with the security of the buildings, grounds and property under the ownership or control of Kirklees College, 24 hours per day – 7 days per week.
During both the day and night time hours inc. weekend periods the post holder will provide a uniformed mobile resource across all sites ensuring the estate buildings remain safe and secure by physical patrols and checks. Alarm response key holding will be a responsibility of the post holder and any liaison with other agencies to return the estate buildings back to secure.
To ensure the safety of learners, staff and visitors whilst using the college premises along with the security of the buildings, grounds and property of the college. Providing high standard of customer care and service in addition to keeping the college safe by physical patrolling, virtual patrolling using our extensive modern CCTV systems and using other technology that manages access to buildings through card accessed security barriers and doors.
Responsible for promoting an optimal learning environment by engaging and liaising appropriately and skilfully with students, encouraging positive behaviour by way of positive reinforcement and working in line with positive behaviour policy for the best outcome of the student and college community as a whole.
To ensure a high standard of customer care and service in addition to keeping the college safe you will also be uniformed front facing and, in many cases, the first-person learners, staff and visitors engage with as they enter the college buildings therefore customer service is key to the success of the role.

The prevent strategy and safeguarding are key priorities of the college and the role of the Security Officer is central to the focus. The successful individual will need to focused and determined to ensure the college environment is a safe one.
The qualifications deemed essential for the post are a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C) and full driving license. The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is also essential for the post.
